. . . and I’m happy about it.
I won’t rehearse the long list of reasons that I wasn’t happy about 2016. What matters is that I’m excited about a fresh start. I think that’s one of my top two or three reasons for loving teaching. You get a fresh start every year – a fresh set of faces, a new pack of minds to work with – and you get another chance at making a difference in their lives. I like that about teaching, and I like to think about each year as a unit like that. True, it’s part of a longer story, but it’s also its own kind of story, too. Like a “yearbook” – here’s a new beginning, coming up.
And I like new beginnings.
I think I’ll skip the list of promises to myself, things I want to accomplish this year. I’d prefer to keep most of that to myself, and just get stuff done. That’s what I hope 2017 is about for me – following through and getting these big ideas finished.
So hurry up and get here, 2017.
