My goal is to post my thinking here about what I’m working on. I’m currently working as a teacher, an adjunct English instructor, and a doctoral student in education with a focus on language, literacy, and culture.
My interests are technology and literacy, writing pedagogy, and the ways that technology is changing reading and writing (or literacy practices).
I might sometimes get a little technical. This is why I chose to separate this blog from my other blog, which is more clearly focused on general ideas and “practitioner” interests. I’m not a fan of the overly-dense and deliberately obfuscatory prose of some researchers. That’s not my goal. However, I won’t abandon the precise language of the academy in a patronizing attempt to avoid confusing my reader. I think that would also be bad.
I have big goals for the summer, as usual, and like any teacher, I have set aside a large number of ambitious tasks for the freedom and unlimited time and energy of the summer. Unfortunately, I have yet to accomplish even 50% of my summer goals in 17 years of trying.
But there’s always next summer, right?
