I’m a teacher and a bunch of other things, like
- a dad
- a writer (sort of)
- an avid reader (mostly YA, fantasy, and sci fi)
- a tutor
- an American lit scholar
- a Cleveland Browns fan
- a social media addict and amateur web designer
- an amateur musician
- a wannabe triathlete
I’m active on Twitter, and I really enjoy connecting with teachers and educators there. I was active in several chats for several years, including co-founding and running #TeachWriting for a few years. I’m also involved in the Illinois Writing Project, my local teachers union, and I do a little adjunct teaching (mostly English composition) at a career college in Chicago.
It was Twitter that motivated me to be more connected and share more. I hope to continue to grow as a connected educator. My dream is to begin writing books about teaching and . . . random fiction.
Recently, I completed an ESL endorsement. This has helped me notice a lot of the struggles and inadequacies of our current systems for teaching English language learners. Many students are slipping through the cracks, and it’s a significant equity issue.
